Benefits of Fenugreek for hair

Fenugreek cures your hair by

Increasing:

  • Hair Growth
  • Hair Strength
  • Hair Shine & Softness
  • Hair Conditioning

Decreasing:

  • Hair Loss
  • Excess Hair Oil
  • Scalp Problems
  • Dandruff
  • Premature Hair Graying
  • Split Ends

We know this because…

1) For Hair Growth

Just the way head massaging, improves our scalp’s blood circulation. Nicotinic Acid i.e. Vitamin B3 of fenugreek supplies oxygen to our hair follicles and hair roots.

Well, you cannot massage your hair all the time, isn’t it? This is why you can give your hair a Vitamin, whose effect is equivalent to head massages.

You should also thank beta-carotene of Methi for this. Beta-carotene contains lots of Vitamin A and antioxidants. When hair follicles are introduced to beta-carotene, they help in removal of harmful free radicals from hair. That you derive from outside’s dust, smoke and pollution.

Beta-carotene is also responsible for production of healthy hair sebum. They are special because they are said to be natural hair conditioners and hair growth stimulants too.

2) For Strengthening Hair

Our hair is nothing, but our body’s waste! ‘Body waste’ means something that we don’t need. Hair is actually made of both living and non-living cells.

Due to dead cells, you don’t feel any pain when your hair gets cut. And hence the whole responsibility of keeping hair strong comes onto the shoulders of living cells.

These living cells need lots of energy to work and grow. For this your hair roots and hair follicles, need carbohydrates. And you can rely on Methi as 60% of its chemical composition is made up of carbohydrates only.

3) For Making Hair Shiny and Soft

Fenugreek-Helps-In-Making-Your-Hair-Soft-And-Shiny

If you have gone through our last post titled, “Amla for Hair: 11 Benefits and 12 ways to use it”. You must be knowing that, closed cuticles bring shine to hair.  And for keeping one’s hair cuticles closed and sealed, you need moisture.

Moisture in Methi is brought by a natural emollient, known as ‘Lecithin’. That is said to be present in it, at a high quantity.

Moisturizers are technically called ‘emollient’. With moisture in hair, you can make your hair feel soft. Lecithin being a fatty acid moisturizes and protects our hair from UV rays too.

Speaking about hair shine, the time you will strain out soaked Methi seeds. You will find it slimy to touch. This sliminess in Methi is brought by a gelatinous substance called ‘mucilage’.

Lecithin will bring natural shine to your hair and Mucilage will polish your naturally shiny hair.

Plus with the help of mucilage only, you will be able to detangle your hair quite easily after every hair wash.

4) For Hair Conditioning

Methi acts as both hair conditioner and hair moisturizer.

By moisturizing your hair, you increase the moisture retaining capacity of your hair cells. And on hair conditioning, you give moisture to it along with improving your hair’s texture and appearance.

By texture and appearance we mean, make your hair look frizz-free. With hair conditioners, you can also prevent post-hair wash problems like- ‘hair matting’ and ‘static hair’.

This happens due to polyphenols and falvonoids that are present in fenugreek. Both of these are said to have condition hair naturally.

5) For Controlling Hair Loss

It may happen that you take every possible step to take care of your hair but still your hair fall is not willing to stop.

You do have a control over the usage of hair care products. But you do not have any control over your body’s natural hormones.

Phytosterols and phytoestrogens of Methi can prevent hair loss, caused naturally by uneven increase/decrease of your body hormones.

The three main body hormones that affect our hair’s health are:

  • Estrogen
  • Progesterone and;
  • Testosterone (a.k.a. Androgen)

Low estrogen and progesterone can deter hair growth and cause hair loss too.

While testosterone, when gets converted to Di-hydro-testosterone (DHT), can cause hair baldness and hair thinning too.

Fenugreek’s phytoestrogens help in the rise of lowering estrogen.

And Phytosterols of fenugreek prevents testosterone from getting converted into Di-hydro-testosterone (DHT).

What are Phytoestrogens and Phytosterols?

Our body doesn’t produce them naturally. These hormones are present in plants usually, which usually help in controlling human body hormones.

6) For Removing Excess Hair Oil

Even the sebum (oil) of your scalp contains DHT. DHT clogs our hair pores, our hair’s sebum glands keep on secreting oil and DHT keep on depositing it on our scalp’s surface.

This is why many people with oily hair suffer from dandruff and hair breaks too. For removing DHT from the scalp, phytosterols of fenugreek can be of your help.

7) For Scalp Problems

Besides dandruff and dry scalp, there are also some other scalp problems like hair lice and psoriasis, etc. The oil of fenugreek seeds lauds fenugreek with anti-bacterial and anti-microbial properties .These two help in dealing with all these scalp problems.

8) For Dandruff Removal

Scalpy-Hair

Dandruff is mainly seen on oily head scalps. If you are able to control the oiliness on your scalp, then your dandruff will also get removed along with the excess oil. We hope you remember that even for removing excess hair oil, fenugreek can be put to use.

9) For Premature Hair Graying and Whitening

You all know that melanin, gives color to your hair. But you don’t know that, melanin is composed of tyrosine.

Due to tyrosine only, melanin is able to give your hair a black color. As by the oxidation of tyrosine only melanin can be produced by our hair cells.

Tyrosine is one of the amino acids that are made of Phenylalanine.

And phenylalanine is an amino acid that is present in fenugreek seeds.

Along with this fenugreek seeds also contain copper, which is another essential nutrient to avoid premature hair graying and whitening.

10) For Split Ends

If you don’t oil your hair before wash, if you improperly detangle your hair after hair wash, you can get split ends! Split ends causes are many, but there’s only one solution for getting rid of them.

That is to moisturize your hair properly, so that you can prevent the opened cuticles of your hair, from wearing off. The worn off cuticles only gives rise to split ends.
